It’s an ideal choice and top performer in a range of applications including automotive, chemical processing, aerospace, and industrial markets. This rubber is ideal for these applications because of its ability to resist high temperatures, destructive chemicals, and harsh environments. Certain technical and safety specifications must be met to ensure proper installation, optimal performance, and maximum uptime.
Viton® is used for a variety of automotive purposes including:
Fuel seals, heads, intake manifold gaskets
- O-rings
- Fuel injection seals
- Caulks
- Advanced fuel hosing components
- Head gaskets
This specific type of rubber is also ideal in challenging aerospace applications which require the ability to seal against hard vacuum and thermal cycling. Viton® products for the aerospace market include:
- O-rings
- Manifold gaskets
- Firewall seals
- Hose for hot engine lubricants
- Cap-Seals
Viton Gaskets

Viton O-Ring
IRP offers close to 1,000 metric sizes available in Buna-N and Viton® materials.
O-ring seals are circular rings of various cross-sectional configurations installed in a gland to close off a passageway and prevent escape or loss of a fluid or gas. An oring is specified by three of its features: its dimensions, material, and hardness. Material and hardness specify the elastomeric compound and Shore A (durometer) hardness of the compound that is used to manufacture the o-ring. An O-ring's dimensions are described by stating its inside diameter (I.D.) and its cross-section. Designing for o-rings depends on three major and interrelated variables: the operating conditions or environment the seal will experience, the gland geometry into which the seal will be installed and the three variables account for the fact that there are so many different types of seals and applications. |
